Would you like a tour of our bedroom?

Of course you would!

Partner and I have done A LOT of work on the house and I am ashamed of how little I've blogged about it.  Well, here I go.  Partner and I recently gave our bedroom a makeover and we LOVE it now!  Come along gentle readers, er, um, viewers, on two magical tours, the first being before we bought the house and the second being after the makeover.

Follow along into the closet area you walk through on your way to the bedroom.

Look to your right and you will see our closets.

Strange isn't it? Moving along, look to your left at the built-ins. God, they have a lot of shit just crammed into them.

I'm sure we' can make those pretty. Let's see the room.

Oh my god, Partner!! This is bad! This is really bad! Dark wood paneling?! Drop ceiling?! Pergo flooring?! Not only is it bad, it doesn't make any sense! Also, how old ARE these people?

---

Ok, I'm sorry for taking you on that terrible journey. That bedroom was the bane of my existence until recently. On Thursday night I finished painting the strange closet area. So here's the tour from the front door to our bedroom.

Look to your right at the closets!

I love built-ins! Check them out on your left!

Moving on to the bedroom.   I am so excited to show you!!

Check out the ceiling! We took down the drop ceiling and really beat up and aged insulation and left the beams and slats exposed. We had to paint the beams though because they were a bit too beat up to work with.

Thanks Mom for your curtains! I should pick out more things for your home so you can ultimately decide that they don't work and give them to me!

Grandma's living room end tables that I refinished when I 13 or so. Love 'em!

There's a mirror in the closet area too.

We left the closet doors inside the bedroom unpainted.   I think it was a good choice, although I'm not totally sold on it.

That's it for the bedroom, I'll take you on another tour, another day.

Debrief:  The makeover isn't complete.  1) The tube TV will eventually go.  2) There are a few spots where wall art will go.  3)  Where the walls meet the ceiling need finishing touches.  4) The flooring (Pergo) in the bedroom will be replaced.  (Whenever that fits in the budget).

5)  Keep in mind that our house is the crayola house.  There's the blue room, the green rooms, the yellow rooms, the brown hallways, etc.  This is our white room!  I hate when a pack of crayons doesn't include white!  I like white to be a color choice, not a lack of choice.

Future, here I come!

Oh my God!  It's my last day with Wolfram & Hart!  So crazy!  I am really excited about my new future!  I am also really excited about all the work partner and I are going to do on the house during my week off between leaving this job and starting my new one.

We've done a lot of work over the past few months, but I haven't shared any of it!!*  If we are not busting our asses around the clock I will definitely post about it next week.  If we do bust our asses, I will post about it after.**

My new life will now begin!

* Sharing requires pictures.  Pictures require getting them out of my camera and onto the computer!  I haven't done that since....  February, I think.

** Most likely not while I'm at my new job, because I am actually looking forward to being busy and engaged in my work!!  A major reason for leaving here is because I was SEVERELY underutilized.

You totally want more reading material

I've told you about my interior design blog reading habits, and then I got an award for commenting which was amazing because I see myself as the CRAPPIEST commenter.  So, combining these recent experiences I have decided to share more about my blog reading habits, maybe it's my way to try to make up for not commenting on people's actual blogs.  Maybe because I'm more of a reader than a poster, it seems logical to post about my reading.  Who cares why, it's what I feel like telling you.

Anyway,  besides interior design blogs I also like to read...  wait for it... wait for it....  Mom blogs!  I do.  Well, i don't know if any of these actually count as Mommy Blogs as far as that group goes because I haven't paid much attention to what is in our out of that group, but these people have kids and make reference to them.  My blog may not be an interior design or Mom blog, but I like to consume this media and that's that.  I am a constant voyeur of these top three blogs:

Backpacking Dad:  So, my favorite Mom blog is actually a Dad blog.  He's funny and reflective.  He loves his kids without being overly mooshy about it.  All in all, pretty awesome right there!  Then to top it off, he's a Buffy fan and an Angel fan, so you know he's definitely good people.

Crissy, the Queen of Fucking Everything: She's a big hit and a big deal because she is the QOFE. I think she's hilarious!  She's a librarian and a mother of two who swears and talks about dildos, masturbation, various types of penetration, etc and, you know, being a mom, but in a totally irreverent way.  And I eat that shit up. *

Cakies: I don't know if she considers herself a mommy blogger or whatever that culture is, but she's a mom and she blogs and her kids are in there, so I think that counts.  Anyway, her posts always include these vibrant beautiful colors of what she's doing, making, dressing her kids in and I LOVE IT!  I wish my life looked like her pictures.

* Note: Yesterday there was a kerfuffle about TMI Thursdays over at the QOFE's blog.  I like reading Crissy's blog because it is always too much information.  I like reading people's TMI Thursdays posts because I like too much information however it comes to me.  This is by no means supposed to be a statement in relation to the kerfuffle.  I could care less, leave the drama alone and bring on the TMI.

Special for a Day

I was kindly given the Super Comments Award by Jeff of the entertaining This is Why Your Hold Time is so Long.
This is awesome!  Thank you Jeff!  But also prompts me to clarify.  You know on the Myers Briggs when they ask you something about whether you have a lot of friends or a few close ones?  Well, in my non blog life I answer the ladder and this award makes me realize that in my blog life it is true as well.  I read A LOT of blogs, but I don't comment for shit.  I never know how to begin commenting on people's blogs.  But a few people have commented on mine which has made it easy for me to comment on theirs.  Ipso facto, I am in a situation where I will be awarding people who Jeff awarded and that's weird but it's the goddamn truth.

Antelope is a real life friend with two super entertaining blogs (Irregular Giggling and Jealous Fiction).  Read them both!  They are awesome!  Her comments keep me blogging, because they are like little treat rewards I receive for being a good girl and writing about something.  I am so high maintenance.

There are two other bloggers who I have not met in real life but have kindly befriended me and pretend to give a shit about the boring things I write about.  Thank for rescuing this blogger from blog-wallflower-dom Jeff (is it still paying it forward if I pass it back? No? Well, fuck, I love and appreciate his comments so I am disregarding this issue) and Shine (who is very funny and tells me that I should wear a skirt instead of being a skank hoe with the hem of my skirt up around my waist - good advice!).

I will award one other who can't pass it on because she doesn't blog but she does read my blog and comment - MY MOM!  Yep, my mom reads my blog!  That's makin' it kids!

Thanks again Jeff!

{title conveying excitement and awesomeness}

This week has been awesome!!
  • I love summer and it's been hot and sunny like actual summer!  So great!
  • Lucky for Partner and I, Antelope and her Houseboy were forced to make an emergency trip to Chicago, which meant a we got to see them, hang out for a bit, AND they slept over! Ow, ow slumber party!  Although I wish I realized when they got up yesterday that it was their anniversary, because I totally would've wished them a timely Happy Anniversary!
  • Enough of my coworkers were on vacation yesterday and today so that it only made sense for me to work from home!  Yay for sitting on the sunny deck with my laptop.
  • AND, holy shit!  I was offered a fantastic job today, so I can stop working for Wolfram & Hart!
What a week, what a week!

My Happy Blog Place

I have a gajillion blogs in my Google Reader.  They are broken up into categories. Today I am going to tell you about my folder which should be titled "My Happy Place."  It's actually labeled "Interior Design."  I have always loved interior design!  I actually thought about going to school to become a designer (and then I went and studied Sociology and now I make pretty spreadsheets- so totally in the same ballpark).  Now Partner and I have a house, and we take joy in doing our DIY projects to make it pretty.  It's not perfect, we don't have unlimited time or resources, and I am not exactly the most brilliant interior designer.  All that really matters to us is that making our home lovely in our eyes makes us so incredibly happy! Well, he's happy, I'm incredibly happy.

Anyway, I have added 82 blogs to this folder over time.  When I am stressed and need a break, or bored and need entertainment, or getting home remodeler's block and need inspiration, I click on the folder and scroll through the 1000+ posts that have piled up.  For the most part it is pretty pictures, but there is also DIY advice.  It doesn't take very long to go through 20 something posts because I enjoy the pretty pictures and move on, or if the DIY advice is something I think we'll want to know for a future project I star it and leave it for when I want to read WORDS.

Without further ado, here are a few of the 82 that bring me super joy with their pretty pictures in no particular order:

Ferocious like a LION

Cats are serious predators!  They will hunt, attack, and then bring you their prey!

We have two cats:
OH!  Those are my precious babies.  The white one is Blue and the black one is Nico.  THEY ARE SERIOUS HUNTERS....  of socks.

All day long we find socks in the middle of the living room, on the stairs, they will present them to us while we cook dinner or while we watch TV, or we will wake up with socks in our bed.   It's very entertaining actually!  The way Blue will walk up with a big pink fuzzy slipper sock, drop it on the floor, look up at us, and Meow to present his little giftie to us.  "Good boy Blue!"
It's fun when it's been a shitty day at work, and the train ride sucked because some guy was talking about fishing the whole time and wouldn't leave me to my bubble of solitude, and I have a headache and AHH... and then I walk in the door to find five socks strewn across the living room floor with both Blue and Nico sprawled out on their backs exhausted from gathering this feast of prey.  It's really really hilarious!

We have such good little babies!  When we have kids they'll entertain themselves home alone all day by hunting socks and then quietly rest on the floor when we get home right?
